The article discusses the topic of ornamental fish, considering their importance in the market of ornamental fish farming, a growing activity in Brazil and worldwide. In Amazonas, the fishery of ornamental fish is recognized by the Rio Negro Indication of Origin (IP). In addition to an interview, a survey of technologies and markets on this topic was conducted on a patent and commercial basis and in the scientific literature to identify current trends and potential technological advances in ornamental fish farming. The main finding was that Asian countries have mastered management techniques, laboratory propagation of various non-wild species and technologies that contribute to the health and care of ornamental fish farming. The results contribute to the management of the Rio Negro IP by identifying markets and technological advances that can promote ornamental fish farming to boost the commercialization of ornamental fish in the state of Amazonas.
