“Against the tide”: a view at the ways of being a gay man

Resumo: | Abstract: Our paper seeks to understand the meaning of being a gay man. Using a qualitative and documentary research,in an existential phenomenological approach based on Heidegger, six cisgender gay men’s narratives transcriptions shownin the movie Bichas, o documentário were analyzed, in light of Analytical Sense. From the analysis of the narratives, andin dialogue with the academic literature on masculinities, we could reflect upon the narrators experience as gay men,revealing a meaning: being a gay man proved to be a way of being accompanied by suffering and resistance. According tothis unveiling, we also raise some thoughts and questions about the duty of Psychology in an ethical-political dimension, inthe understanding and accompaniment of the phenomena emerging from LGBTI community and psychologist praxis.Keywords: Masculinities. Utilizando unametodología cualitativa y documental bajo la perspectiva fenomenológica existencial al modo de Heidegger, seanalizaron, a la luz de la analítica del sentido, transcripciones de narrativas de seis hombres gais cisgenéros, disponiblesen la película Bichas, o documentário. A partir del análisis de las narrativas, y en diálogo con la literatura académicasobre masculinidades, fue posible pensar sobre la experiencia de los narradores como hombres gais, revelando unsentido: ser hombre gay se mostró como un modo de ser-con-otros, acompañado de sufrimiento y resistencia. Ante estedesvelamiento, se plantea también algunos cuestionamientos y reflexiones acerca del compromiso ético-político de laPsicología para comprender y acompañar los fenómenos que emergen relacionados con la comunidad LGBTI y lapraxis profesional del psicólogo.Palabras clave: Masculinidades. Hombres gays. Psicología clínica.Este trabalho teve como objetivo compreender o sentido de ser homem, sendo gay. Utilizando uma metodologia qualitativa e documental numa perspectiva fenomenológica existencial ao modo de Heidegger, foram analisadas, à luz da Analítica do Sentido, transcrições de narrativas de seis homens gays cisgenêro, disponíveis no filme “Bichas, documentário”. A partir da análise das narrativas, e em diálogo com a literatura acadêmica sobre masculinidades, foi possível refletir acerca da experiência dos narradores como homens gays, revelando um sentido: ser homem gay mostrou-se como um modo de ser-com-outros, acompanhado de sofrimento e de resistência.
