Resumo: | The Anti-Manicomial Fight and the Psychiatric Reform assured relevant advances in mental health assistance in Brazil. However, in the face of the political reverses that the country has been exposed to in the late years, we see ourselves before practices that conform to the manicomial and medicalizing logic. Before such reality, we seek to comprehend how medicalization, as a complex social phenomenon, is inscribed in the life of the people who attend a Center for Psychosocial Attention - alcohol and drugs II (henceforth CAPSad II due to its abbreviation in Portuguese). In this article, we aim to analyze the place that medicamentalization, a constituent part of the medicalization process, holds in the caring process towards the users of this service. We defined as a field-theme a CAPSad II located in a town in the hinterland of Paraíba. We carried out the participant observation and, later, accomplished the discourse analysis of the field journals produced during the research. Considering the care processes of CAPSad II users, we identified the fundamental place that medication occupies. The prescription and consumption of psychotropic drugs have a prominent place in the service, given the demand for “stability” and the guarantee of abstinence, contrary to the proposal of Harm Reduction as a political care strategy. Keywords: Medicalization; medicamentalization; harm reduction; field journal; discursive practices. |

Keywords: Medicalization; medicamentalization; harm reduction; field journal; discursive practices.
