Resumo: The objective of this article is to reflect on Gramsci's theoretical contributions in the prison notes, on three major themes: 1. the bases for a critical conception of politics and modern state, 2. the state expansion and the civil hegemony formula, as well as, how new political science reflections treated these themes and 3. the peculiarities of the complex notions of civil society and self-regulated society.
