This work aims to make the genetic critique of the “Soneto de confissão II - Nem uma deusa”, by the poet Pedro Lyra. Written in Lisbon in 1987, the sonnet was published 12 times, over 30 years (until 2017, when Pedro Lyra passed away). The first publication was in Portugal in 1988, and the 11th and 12th in France, both in 2000, thus having very rich material for the elaboration of genetic criticism. Provided by the author, the story of this sonnet presents 19 papers considered in its analysis, being three of manuscripts, three of its transcriptions, one of original and the remaining twelve of publications. Throughout the (re) writing of the poem, the poet removes the lyrical self from the situation reported in the poem, moving it from narrator-character to simple narrator, which narrates the pain of love. Love becomes the main character. In the end, however, the narrator returns to be the main character, surprisingly. Throughout the poem, the lyrical self exalts love, but, above all, the desire for a single woman, indefinable (not comparable to nor a goddess), as the title itself suggests. By the perfection and, consequently, impossibility of existence of this woman who would dispense with all others, which would contain LOVE in all its fullness, the lyrical I unexpectedly takes care of itself (in the literal sense, to take care of, to take care of) - instead of the perfect woman, who does not exist, who is not even born - and borns, reborns, (re)discovers.
