IRONY AS POLITICAL ACTIVITY IN ONLINE INTERACTIONS

Resumo: This work aims at evaluating how politician’s statements are ironically appropriated in public interactions on the web. It is also based on a sociodiscursive interaction analysis in order to understand the irony as a language activity with evaluative purposes. The irony is materialised through different ways, but, in this paper, the focus is the echoic mention, which consists of the reference, as an echo, to other’s discourse. The ironical effect results from the intentional distance between what is said and what is meant. Our findings suggest that the strategy of echoic mention is one of the most frequent mechanisms on the production of irony regarding utterances on politics on the web.

Baseia-se numa perspectiva sociodiscursiva de análise da interação para entender a ironia como atividade de linguagem, usada com fins avaliativos. A ironia concretiza-se através de diversas formas de construção, focalizando-se neste trabalho o recurso da menção ecoante, que consiste na referência, como um eco, ao discurso de outro. O efeito irônico resulta do proposital distanciamento entre o que é dito e o que é significado.
