This research constitutes a study about the School Council in the educational system of Vitória, state of Espírito Santo. It is an study based on the school quotidian, having as focus the experience of the School Council, understanding it as an instance where parents, educators, pupils and community decide and manage the school collectively. The study evidences the possibilities and the limits of the School Council by the rescue of its history and the analysis of its quotidian practices, opening up a reflection about democracy in this quotidian and power relationship in this spaces/times. It is an analysis that was subsidised by act books, odd documents, legislation, official correspondence, besides the verbal history through the depositions of diverse involved citizen in the School Council, all this constituting the methodological resources. The results had disclosed some nuances of democracy in the school quotidian and had still indicated that the School Council constitutes itself as a valuable instrument in the construction of the democratic management of the public school.
