Resumo: The article proposes that the perceived gap between the scientific linguistic practice and its historical path must be overcome and that it is in the language sciences teaching situation that this connection can be re-established in a privileged way. The term ‘linguistics’ in the text refers to both the vast knowledge that men produced about the nature of human language and their languages, as well as to the introductory discipline offered in the Language and Literature undergraduate schools. Basing on general principles shared by contemporary linguistic historiographers, we suggest some guidelines that can subsidize language sciences education.
