Psychology at hospital maternity: an experience report

Currently the demand for psychology professionals in a hospital environment is increasing. Thus the need to stimulate these professional’s knowledge on that particular context to guide their conduct and to contribute them to achieve a respectable area of professional action. Considering these aspects and the importance of questioning psychology’s works in healthcare the present study is an experience report that aims to reflect on psychology’s role in a hospital environment, specifically in maternity services, by the analysis of patients from the University of Brasilia’s Hospital’s maternity sector and neonatal ICU. The sessions were conducted in such a way to specifically contemplate aspects related to maternity, to becoming a mother, as well as to treatment’s adherence and the time of hospitalization. Different aspects of what the psychologist faces on hospital’s environment were observed, like factors related to space limitation and impasses related to psychologies roles in multidisciplinary teams.
