Resumo: This work intends to study the complex construction of the identity from the book Um rio chamado tempo, uma casa chamada terra of Mia Couto. We will observe how this writing negotiates concepts of tradition and con­temporaneity in close relation with the notion of in-between from Homi Bhabha (2001) in the book The location of culture and with the idea of un­decidable of Jacques Derrida.
