Tourist experience, authenticities and agency: from simulacrum to dediferentiation

Resumo: | The aim of this article is to present a reflection in the context of the development of the project "Innovation and Future: contributions on the design of the tourist offer in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area" (Lisboa-01-0145-Feder-023368), discussing in the light of the research results, the problematics of the representation of the city, the AML, tourism and the agency of the multiple actors, where the tourist experiences in these territories are strongly deficient in plural tourist experiences (Joaquim, 2015) and territorially deconcentrated and not integrated. The central methodological strategy was clearly based on intensive methodologies where techniques such as focus groups and in-depth interviews, aimed to work the singularities of the communities, their memories, their representations, their projects, their desires, essential for a development tourism, identity-based, crossing their memories, experiences and visions about the future. The results point to very contradictory representations about the city, the LMA and tourism according to the personal and territorial trajectories of the actors involved. However, a common trait is the absence of agency with regard to tourism, both among those who reject tourism, which is extraordinarily expressive in Lisbon, and among those who see it as a desirable development process in their municipalities. This article focuses on the former. |

This article focuses on the former.El objetivo de este artículo es presentar una reflexión en el contexto del desarrollo del proyecto "Innovación y Futuro: contribuciones sobre el diseño de la oferta turística en el Área Metropolitana de Lisboa" (Lisboa-01-0145-Feder-023368), discutiendo a la luz de los resultados de la investigación, la problemática de la representación de la ciudad, del AML, del turismo y de la agencia de los múltiples actores, donde las experiencias turísticas en estos territorios son fuertemente deficitarias en experiencias turísticas plurales (Joaquim, 2015) y territorialmente desconcentradas y no integradas. La estrategia metodológica central se basó claramente en metodologías intensivas donde técnicas como los grupos focales y las entrevistas en profundidad, apuntaron a trabajar las singularidades de las comunidades, sus memorias, sus representaciones, sus proyectos, sus anhelos, esenciales para un turismo de desarrollo, identitario, cruzando sus memorias, experiencias y visiones sobre el futuro. Los resultados apuntan a representaciones muy contradictorias sobre la ciudad, el AML y el turismo según las trayectorias personales y territoriales de los actores implicados. Sin embargo, un rasgo común es la ausencia de agencia respecto al turismo, tanto entre los que rechazan el turismo, extraordinariamente significativo en Lisboa, como entre los que lo ven como un proceso de desarrollo deseable en sus municipios. Este artículo se centra en los primeros.O objectivo deste artigo é apresentar uma reflexão no contexto do desenvolvimento do projecto “Inovação e Futuro: contributos sobre o desenho da oferta turística na Área Metropolitana de Lisboa” (Lisboa-01-0145-Feder-023368), discutindo à luz dos resultados da investigação, as problemáticas da representação da cidade, da AML, do turismo e da agência dos múltiplos actores, onde as experiências turísticas nestes territórios são fortemente deficitárias em experiências turísticas plurais (Joaquim, 2015) e territorialmente desconcentradas e não integradas. A estratégia metodológica central assentou claramente nas metodologias intensivas onde técnicas como os focus group e as entrevistas em profundidade, tiveram como objetivo trabalhar as singularidades das comunidades, as suas memórias, as suas representações, os seus projetos, os seus desejos, essenciais para um turismo de desenvolvimento, de base identitária, cruzando as suas memórias, experiências e visões sobre o futuro. Os resultados apontam para representações muito contraditórias sobre a cidade, a AML e o turismo conforme as trajectórias pessoais e territoriais dos actores envolvidos. Predomina, no entanto, como traço comum, a ausência de agência no que ao turismo concerne, quer nos que o repudiam, extraordinariamente expressivo em Lisboa, quer nos que o perspectivam como um processo de desenvolvimento desejável nos seus concelhos.
