A midiatização como processo de reconfiguração do imaginário: uma análise do Caso Kliemann

In this paper we share the conclusions of the research in which we observe how the processes that are established from the materialization of meaning in media devices reconfigure a certain very peculiar class of meanings, called the imaginary. By materialization of meaning, based on the epistemology of mediatization, we understand the transformation of previously ethereal meanings – the case of thought – into material, palpable statements, such as narratives printed in newspapers or statements recorded on audio devices, among other examples. In the wake of Verón's (1980; 2005; 2013) notes, we understand that meaning, once materialized, acquires autonomy in relation to its author and persistence over time, which leaves it at the mercy of certain reconfigurations - which, in our research, we observed in a view focused on the imaginary. By imaginary we mean, in line with Silva (2017), a surplus of meaning (the case of commotion, dazzle, emotional shock) that is established in the subjectivity of individuals when they are faced with certain concrete events - in the case of accidents and tragedies, for example – events that simply happen in the concreteness of the world, initially devoid of meaning. The research corpus is a set of narratives, in newspapers, audio recordings and book-reports, about the events that took place in the 1960s in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, which became known as the Kliemann Case and which, in our reading, present a strong load of meanings of the imaginary order.
