Resumo: The current intervention presents three purposes: (1) to try to expose, even if briefly, the concept of human rights that guides this analysis; (2) to suggest that the situations of economic, social and cultural rights violations are, in part, a byproduct of the political choice of an extractive development model for Latin America and the use of strategies of flexibilization, outsourcing and subcontracting of the work inherent to this model; (3) to present a small portrait of certain situations that involve of human and social rights violations in the Southeast of Pará, Carajás region, where the transnational company Vale and other business enterprises develop mining-metallurgical projects.

É o segundo maior Estado do Brasil em extensão territorial (1.247.950 km2). Conforme os dados divulgados no artigo “Mineração na Amazônia. O Desafio de ser Sustentável”, In: Revista Brasil Mineral, Ano XXXI, outubro de 2014, registram-se “152,2 milhões de hectares de área do Estado destinados à produção mineral” e identifica-se a presença de inúmeros investimentos financeiros na indústria de extração e transformação mineral. [2] A região de Carajás, localizada no sudeste do Pará, compreende os municípios de Canaã de Carajás, Curionópolis, Eldorado dos Carajás e Parauapebas. Também conforme a Revista Brasil Mineral de 2014, “tomando-se por base a arrecadação da CFEM (Contribuição Financeira pela Exploração Mineral), a produção mineral no Pará alcançou a cifra de aproximadamente R$33,5 bilhões, quase um terço de toda a produção mineral brasileira registrada pelo Departamento Nacional de Produção Mineral (DNPM), possibilitando uma arrecadação de R$803,8 milhões em CFEM”. Dentre os municípios localizados na região de Carajás, no sudeste do Pará, os que mais receberam CFEM (royalties provenientes da exploração mineral) foram Parauapebas (700 milhões), Canaã dos Carajás (37milhões) e Marabá (21 milhões).
