Resumo: In 1972, with the death of the artist and collector Abelardo Rodrigues, opened a dispute between the governments of Pernambuco and Bahia for possession of about five hundred pieces of religious art from the collection of Rodrigues. The dispute, which led both governments to court in 1973 had only resolved with the decision of the Brazilian Supreme Court, in August 1975, in favor of the government of Bahia. As a way to repair this suffering and property damage, the State of Pernambuco acquired the remaining collection of Rodrigues in 1982 and spent some of it to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Olinda. This process of division and reframing reached a collection formed for forty years by Rodrigues.

O litígio só fora resolvido com a decisão do Supremo Tribunal Federal brasileiro, em agosto de 1975, em favor do governo da Bahia. Como forma de reparar esse dano moral e patrimonial, o Estado de Pernambuco adquiriu o restante da coleção de Rodrigues em 1982 e destinou parte dela ao acervo do Museu de Arte Contemporânea em Olinda.
