Introduction: Process mapping makes it possible to identify, understand, and produce solutions by improving the performance of business processes in organizations. Process mapping is the preparatory step for determining success in process management projects. Performing process mapping in public and private organizations is important at any time, especially in times of financial stringency. Objective: To know how process mapping is applied in public and private organizations, using the BPM methodology, and aims to highlight the differences between these uses. Methodology: This is characterized as basic research, with exploratory and descriptive objectives, applying bibliographic procedures for data collection. It uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, whose review protocol has three stages: planning, execution, and selection. Results: We worked with a final sample of twenty-five documents, which were analyzed and summarized in a matrix, based on the categories defined in the SIR protocol. Associations were also made with the concepts adopted in the theoretical foundation. Considerations: It is considered that the evidence found as results can contribute to the implementation of process mapping projects using the BPM methodology with greater efficiency and effectiveness.
