Teaching Theatre to indigenous students: an intercultural challenge

Resumo: This paper aims to analyze the theater teaching practice within an interculturalism context; more specifically, in the context of education for indigenous students. The proposed approach aims to confront the challenge of providing education, valuing and integrating the knowledge of the indigenous people, but at the same time, working with traditional theater teaching knowledge, inside and outside the University. The methodology for such includes a case study, derived from the author’s practical experience at FIEI/UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais), with students from various indigenous ethnic groups, allied to the thought of theorists from the fields of education, art education and theater. The results expected to be achieved are not presented as answers but rather, they consist in the formulation of certain questions, which may work as guidelines for further thinking on the subject.

A abordagem proposta tem como objetivo problematizar o desafio de proporcionar um ensino que valorize e integre os saberes e a cultura do povo indígena, mas que, ao mesmo tempo, trabalhe com conhecimentos tradicionalmente utilizados no ensino de teatro, dentro e fora da universidade. Como metodologia para tal, será apresentado um estudo de caso, oriundo da experiência concreta da autora ensinando teatro no âmbito do FIEI/UFMG, junto a estudantes de variadas etnias indígenas, aliado ao pensamento de teóricos provenientes dos campos da Educação, da Arte-educação e do Teatro.
