Resumo: In this study on the daily routine of mothers of diabetic children, the objective was to understand the meaning of being the mother of a diabetic child. It is a qualitative study based on Heideggerian phenomenology as the method of investigation and analysis of the statements of the mothers. The vague and average understanding of this meaning showed the concern with the worsening of diabetes, the control to accept changes in the eating habits of the children and the occupation with the insulin control of the children. In the comprehensive interpretation it was found that the mothers were worried about the constant glycemic control of their children, with the fear of hypoglycemia. The results showed that nurses, as members of the health team, are able to carry out their care directed at helping mothers in their difficulties with domestic chores, valuing their family and existential experience, giving a special position to meeting, involvement and the uniqueness of the relations of mothers with their children.
