Resumo: The objective of this article is to estimate the productive chain of the cultural sector in the Brazilian economy between the years 2011 and 2015 and to evaluate its structural change throughout this period. We estimated the input-output matrices for the years 2011 and 2015 using the methodology developed by Guilhoto and Sesso (2005). The method developed by Dietzenbacher et al. (2005) was applied in order to detect the productive chain and its evolution during this period. The results indicate that the cultural productive chain expanded during this period, incorporating new connections and contributing positively to the Brazilian economy. The cultural sector was classified as a net user of inputs from the rest of the economy. It showed strong direct and indirect backward linkages, purchasing intermediary inputs from many activities. Within the cultural sector, the artistic, creative and entertainment activities were highlighted.

Departamento de Ciências Econômicas da UFMG2019-12-31info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://revistas.face.ufmg.br/index.php/novaeconomia/article/view/5769Nova Economia; Vol. 29 No. Especial (2019): Special Issue "Culture and Development"; 1171-1194Nova Economia; v. 29 n.
