Resumo: The article delves into the establishment of the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) during the military regime, emphasizing its impact on the Central-West occupation and regional development. The 1970s witness a migratory wave challenging the local elite. The alliance between the traditional elite and new political actors reflects social and political changes influenced by the Military Dictatorship. The nationalist strategy of cultural integration is highlighted, including the creation of the Cultural Foundation and museums like the Museum of Art and Popular Culture (MACP). The MACP, coordinated by Humberto Espíndola and Aline Figueiredo, operates on various fronts, promoting local artists, studying the region, updating Brazilian art, focusing on indigenism, folk art, and Latin American art. The museum seeks to legitimize local culture within the framework of the National Culture Policy while facing challenges of representation and heritage.
