Resumo: This research aims to analyze the collection of Roman numismatics at the Museu Histórico Nacional. In this context, the investigation seeks to explore the use of Roman coins as historical sources, reflecting on their significance in teaching and research. The focus is on Roman numismatics, studying the coins produced during the Roman Empire. In our study, we seek relevant publications and research in this field, providing a foundation for new interpretations of wealth circulation, ideas, cultural practices, and power in Rome. Additionally, we present Brazilian studies that address ancient numismatics based on the collection of the Museu Histórico Nacional, exploring topics such as political power represented in Roman Empire coins and the relationship between religion and politics in Republican coins. The ultimate goal is to democratize knowledge about Roman society, generate resources for teaching and research, and analyze the MHN collection through a database for a historical analysis of Roman coins from the principate of Augustus.

Nesse contexto, a investigação busca explorar o uso das moedas romanas como fonte histórica, refletindo sobre sua importância no ensino e na pesquisa. O foco é na numismática romana, estudando as moedas produzidas durante o Império Romano. Em nosso estudo, buscamos publicações e pesquisas relevantes nessa área, fornecendo base para novas interpretações sobre a circulação de riquezas, ideias, práticas culturais e poder em Roma. Além disso, são apresentados estudos brasileiros que abordam a numismática antiga com base no acervo do Museu Histórico Nacional, explorando temas como o poder político representado nas moedas do Império Romano e a relação entre religião e política nas moedas republicanas.
