The Cinéma du look emerged in France during the 1980s and brought a new aesthetic perspective and narrative to french cinema at the time. The main objective of this study is to analyze the contributions of director Leos Carax to this period, with a specific focus on the works produced between 1981 and 1989. The research contextualizes this period historically and explores its stylistic characteristics, highlighting how Carax incorporated them into his productions, aiming to fill a gap in Portuguese-language knowledge on the subject. The study also investigates the reception of these works in Brazil through contemporary film reviews. Two specific films by the director, Boy meets girl (1984) and Mauvais sang (1986), are analyzed based on the perspectives presented by Raphael Bassan (1989), Phil Powrie (1997), Fergus Daly, and Garin Dowd (2019). It is concluded, therefore, that Leos Carax played a fundamental role in the evolution of Cinéma du look, influencing the development of cinematic style and thus contributing to the consolidation of a new perspective on French cinema at the time.
