Resumo: Estrogen has function in different systems and there is evidence that during the menstrual cycle this hormone, along with progesterone, can affect vocal behavior through central and peripheral actions. However the physiological mechanism of these hormones on the voice was not established. The main objective of this study was to investigate the influence of the hormonal changes of the menstrual cycle on voice. This dissertation is composed of two scientific articles on the proposed theme. The first is an integrative review of the literature entitled "Female Hormones and Voice: An Integrative Review of Literature", and aimed to review the influence of female hormones on voice with a birth of vocal fluids during the menstrual cycle. We selected 19 articles. There was no consensus on the presence of receptors for sex hormones in the vocal folds, so the physiological mechanism of these hormones on the voice was not established. As research investigating vocal and hormonal development revealed that there is vocal fluctuation during the phases of the menstrual cycle. There was loss of vocal quality in the phases of the cycle where there is reduction of estrogen levels, however, there is no agreement on which ones are altered in these phases. The second article is a field survey entitled "Vocal fluctuations during the menstrual cycle: a longitudinal study". The main objective of this research was to investigate as acoustic and auditory perceptive characteristics during oscillations of the hormone estradiol in the menstrual cycle. We selected 44 volunteers, from a sample for convenience, aged between 18 and 45 years of age. Of these, 27 women in the regular menstrual cycle who formed the test group (GT) and 17 women were users of oral contraceptives, comprised the control group (CG). The research took place in two phases. Phase 1 of all the volunteers signed the informed consent, an anamnesis was applied on the general health of the volunteer. Subsequently, the TG underwent blood collection in order to dose the hormone estradiol level, in addition to voice recording for later acoustic and auditory perceptive analysis. As volunteers of the CG were submitted only the voice recording. Phase 2 involved the same phase 1 measurements for each group. The variables were analyzed through descriptive and inferential analysis for Results of groups and stages, in addition to a relationship between variables. The significance level of 5% was adopted. It was concluded that there were vocal modifications during the menstrual cycle and these modifications are related to the oscillations of the estradiol hormone. It was observed that, before the decrease of levels of this hormone, had a compromise of vocal quality. As CG participants did not present significant results throughout their research. In addition, the GT presented a significant increase in terms of roughness, tension and instability in phase 2 (low concentration of stradiol) when compared to GC. It was also verified that the low levels of estradiol presented a negative correlation with the parameter of tension, instability and jitter, as well as a positive correlation with fundamental frequency.

O principal objetivo desta pesquisa foi investigar as características vocais acústicas e perceptivoauditivas durante as oscilações do hormônio estradiol no ciclo menstrual.
