Relatos estes que estão em consonância com as pesquisas históricas desenvolvidas até o dado momento, as quais estudam os processos de perseguição às religiões afro-pernambucanas empreendidos pelo Estado, outras denominações religiosas e parcela da sociedade durante os primeiros anos da república, e de forma mais intolerante no período do Estado Novo. No entanto, com a “retomada democrática”, em um novo contexto político e social e sob uma nova Constituição que garantia a liberdade de consciência, crença e exercício de cultos religiosos, como os afro-religiosos de Pernambuco teriam negociado a aceitação e a legitimação social de seus credos? Quais teriam sido as táticas empreendidas pelo povo de santo para conquistarem pouco a pouco o direito hoje garantido de professarem a sua fé e a protestarem por mais direitos em praça pública? Partimos das concepções de história e do fazer historiográfico, que colocam em destaque as transformações a partir das relações de poder e das práticas cotidianas, para observar como no contexto político e social pós-Estado Novo e por toda a década de 1950, os afro-religiosos de Pernambuco, hora sob o discurso de tradição e folclore, hora sob o discurso de religião legítima garantida pela Constituição, buscaram uma maior aceitação e legitimação social. Para tal objetivo nos valemos de uma variedade bibliográfica considerável: os principais jornais e revistas em circulação na época, a documentação produzida pelos próprios agentes afro-religiosos e a documentação oficial publicada através do Diário Oficial de Pernambuco, registros cartoriais e por um processo jurídico.CNPqIn the daily life of the “povo de terreiro” of Recife are still very vivid memories of the times when their ancestors were subject to being imprisoned by the "crime" to worship their deities. These reports are in accord with the historical researches developed up to that moment, which studies the processes of persecution of afro-pernambucan cults undertaken by the State, other religious denominations and part of society during the early years of the republic, and in a manner more intolerant during the Estado Novo period. However, with the "democratic resumption," in a new political and social context and under a new constitution that guaranteed freedom of conscience, belief and the exercise of religious cults, as the Afro-religious of Pernambuco would have negotiated the acceptance and the social legitimation of their creeds? What would have been the tactics undertaken by the “povo de santo” to conquer little by little the right now guaranteed to profess their faith and to protest for more rights in public square? We start from the conceptions of history and historiographic making, which highlight the transformations from the power relations and daily practices, to observe how in the post-Estado Novo political and social context, and throughout the 1950s the Afro- Pernambuco religious, time under the discourse of tradition and folklore, hour under the discourse of legitimate religion guaranteed by the constitution, sought greater acceptance and social legitimation.
