Sem adequado tratamento, podem causar sérios danos aos corpos d’águas que as recebem. O tratamento biológico deste tipo de efluente ocorre em dois estágios. No primeiro, em ambiente anaeróbio, há a quebra das ligações químicas responsáveis pela coloração do corante e formação de aminas aromáticas, que deverão ser removidas no segundo estágio, aeróbio. Caso a relação DQO:SO₄²⁻ seja menor que a relação teórica de 0,67 para remoção completa da matéria orgânica por vias sulfetogênicas, a adição de uma fonte externa de carbono se faz necessária. Neste estudo, o tratamento de efluente têxtil real com alto teor de sulfato (1000 mg SO₄²⁻.L⁻¹) e alta salinidade (7‰) foi realizado em duas fases. Na primeira fase, três reatores em batelada foram utilizados (reator controle, reator com etanol e reator com melaço) para verificar a influência da suplementação das fontes externas de carbono, sob condições anaeróbias. Na segunda fase, o tratamento completo do efluente foi aplicado: fase anaeróbia com adição de melaço e fase aerada. Verificou-se que a suplementação de carbono melhorou a eficiência de remoção de sulfato (de 23% para 70%) e forneceu robustez aos reatores quando submetidos a elevada salinidade (12‰). A suplementação não influenciou diretamente na remoção de DQO (máximas entre 68% e 79%) e de cor (máximas entre 85% e 87%). No entanto, em alguns momentos, a adição de matéria orgânica gerou uma DQO residual mais alta do que a DQO originária da água residuária. Entre o etanol e o melaço, o teste estatístico indicou que não houve diferença entre os dois doadores de elétrons. Desta forma, para a segunda fase, o melaço foi escolhido como doador devido ao menor custo do insumo. Sob regime contínuo, a remoção de DQO e de sulfato foi ainda maior (94% e 82%). A remoção de cor se manteve próxima a 80% no reator anaeróbio e houve formação de aminas aromáticas. Em condições aeróbias, a remoção de sulfato e de cor foi reduzida em muitos dias de análise. A oxidação do sulfeto a sulfato e a autoxidação das aminas aromáticas precisam ser melhor controladas para que não haja perdas na eficiência global do sistema. A grande variabilidade das características da água residuária tratada nesse estudo foi uma barreira para o tratamento biológico. Além da salinidade na fase 1, a presença de surfactantes na água residuária utilizada na fase 2 comprometeu o sistema, ressaltando a necessidade por estudos que abordem as dificuldades de tratamento de efluentes reais.CAPESTextile wastewaters are characterized by the diversity of chemical compounds, which results in high color, sulfate and salinity content. When not treated, they can cause serious damage to the receiving water bodies. The biological treatment of this type of wastewater occurs in two stages. In the first stage, under anaerobic conditions, chemical bonds responsible for conferring color to the dye are broken and aromatic amines are formed, which are then removed in the second aerobic stage, under aerobic conditions. If COD: SO₄²⁻ ratio is lower than the theoretical ratio of 0.67 for complete removal of organic matter by sulfidogenic pathways, an addition of an external carbon source may be made. In the present study, the treatment of real textile wastewater with high sulfate content (1000 mg SO₄²⁻-.L⁻¹) and high salinity (7‰) was carried out in two phases. In the first phase, three batch reactors were used (control, ethanol and molasses reactor) to verify the influence of the two external carbon sources supplementation under anaerobic conditions. Then, in the second phase, the complete treatment was applied: anaerobic stage with addition of molasses followed by an aerated stage. Carbon supplementation improved the sulfate removal efficiency (from 23% to 70%) and gave robustness to the reactors when they were submitted to high salinity (12‰). The supplementation did not influence the removal of COD (maximums between 68% and 79%) and color (maximums between 85% and 87%). However, in some days, the remaining COD in reactors with supplementation was higher than the original COD in the wastewater. Statistical test indicated there was no difference between ethanol and molasses supplementation. Therefore, for the second phase of experiment, molasses was chosen as donor due to its lower cost. Under continuous regime, in the hybrid UASB reactor, better COD and sulfate removal was achieved (94% and 82%). Color removal was again close to 80% and aromatic amines were formed. Under aerobic conditions, in the submerged biofilter, sulfate and color removal was reduced in many days. Sulfide oxidation and autoxidation of aromatic amine must be better controlled to avoid losses in the overall efficiency of the system. Wide characteristics variation of the wastewater treated in this study was a barrier to biological treatment. In addition to the salinity in phase 1, surfactants in the wastewater used in phase 2 compromised the system, emphasizing the need for studies which address the difficulties of treating real effluents.porUniversidade Federal de PernambucoPrograma de Pos Graduacao em Engenharia CivilUFPEBrasilAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/3.0/br/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessEngenharia CivilEfluente têxtilSulfatoSalinidadeAdição de carbonoTratamento biológico de efluente têxtil com alto teor de sulfato e de salinidadeinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesismestradoreponame:Repositório Institucional da UFPEinstname:Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE)instacron:UFPETHUMBNAILDISSERTAÇÃO Sofia Pimentel Araújo.pdf.jpgDISSERTAÇÃO Sofia Pimentel Araújo.pdf.jpgGenerated Thumbnailimage/jpeg1255https://repositorio.ufpe.br/bitstream/123456789/26318/6/DISSERTA%c3%87%c3%83O%20Sofia%20Pimentel%20Ara%c3%bajo.pdf.jpge35c267464119d31aea5ec7e86f7ec6dMD56ORIGINALDISSERTAÇÃO Sofia Pimentel Araújo.pdfDISSERTAÇÃO Sofia Pimentel Araújo.pdfapplication/pdf2886810https://repositorio.ufpe.br/bitstream/123456789/26318/1/DISSERTA%c3%87%c3%83O%20Sofia%20Pimentel%20Ara%c3%bajo.pdf1a8a670a726114aaf5d4128e8a5db567MD51LICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
