Como este romance é uma narrativa centrada num universo considerado "fora do mundo" pelo autor - o seminário católico - procuramos investigar de que modo o enredo formaliza sua relação dialógica com a ideologia cristã e como esta acaba amoldando a visão de mundo que embasa a concepção de amor e de vida do narrador. Por isso, privilegiamos o estudo do espaço - o seminário - para onde volta o narrador já adulto, depois de haver vivido ali sua adolescência. Foi nessa época que ocorreram os fatos que enformam a narrativa. Se temos um adulto no comando da recuperação do passado que vai sendo desfiado para o leitor, veremos como interessa ao narrador centralizar na sua perspectiva toda a recriação do vivido outrora. Para tanto, ele foge quase integralmente da exploração de qualquer visão conflitante com os seus valores, imprimindo no narrado o império da sua voz. Este aspecto estético materializa determinado objetivo do narrador: encontrar a totalidade que, em sua versão, radicaliza-se na vivência do menino que ele foi e que precisa reencontrar agora para a vida alcançar um sentido. Surge então o misticismo de Santa Teresa e de São João da Cruz, fontes explícitas da ideologia entranhada no romance. É sob este influxo que o narrador acredita que o amor experenciado naquele tempo foi tão sublime que somente na transcendência ele agora tem lugar. Em razão disso, a História humana com seus caminhos e descaminhos não é trabalhada nas relações da personagem com o outro, o que dará uma coloração específica ao romance e que é nossa intenção definir. A busca da totalidade sendo a plataforma de partida do narrador torna-se também a voz modelar de todas as suas peripécias. Em vista disto, conduzimos nosso estudo para uma atenção especial a diversas manifestações do discurso literário, tais como: a profunda importância dada ao sexo e que tipo de concepção cercou a atividade do menino e cerca agora a narração do adulto; a presença constante da música no desabrochar do adolescente, constituindo uma chave estético-ideológica com amplas repercussões na vida do seminarista; o verdadeiro ritual de passagem pelo qual ele passa, quando entra num jogo tenso entre os valores religiosos e místicos que ele professava e os apelos eróticos que descobre na relação com o outro; a tênue carnavalização que ocorre na fusão dos espaços sagrados com a prática libidinosa. Finalizamos nosso trabalho com uma breve contextualização da obra nos anos 80, quando as relações mantidas ou não com o universo social e literário brasileiro deixam ainda mais evidente a intenção do autor em seduzir o leitor para a causa que defende e que está nas entrelinhas do discurso. Para tanto, o autor enfatiza a criação de uma personagem extremamente sensível que tem na emoção a matriz dos seus atos, sendo preocupação nossa deslindar a malha romanesca, na tentativa de deixar claro como o narrador pensa e age a fim de cativar a adesão incondicional de quem o lê.Abstract: Based on Bakhtin's theory of the novel, this dissertation is an analysis of Em nome do desejo, by João Silvério Trevisan. As the novel takes place in a catholic seminary, a universe considered by the author as "out of the world", I have attempted to investigate how the plot deals with the relationship between the dialogues and the Christian ideology, and how the latter ends up molding the narrator's conception of love and life. Thus, I have favored the study of the setting - the seminary - to where the narrator returns as an adult, after having lived there through his adolescence. The facts that give form to his narrative, happened at that time. As there is an adult trying to recover his past, which he is revealing to the reader, I will try to find out in what way this narrator will center his viewpoint when recreating the life he has lived before. He almost barely explores any conflicting view of his values, telling his story pure and simply. This aesthetic aspect discloses a certain purpose of the narrator: to find the wholeness which, for him, comes from the boy he once was and who he must now recover so that his life can make some sense. It is at this point that the mysticism of Saint Theresa and Saint John of the Cross emerges, an explicit source of the novel's deep-rooted ideology. Influenced by this mysticism the narrator believes that the love he felt back then in the seminary was so sublime that now it cannot be recalled unless it is transcendent. So, the history of Man - with its advances and drawbacks -- is not regarded in the relationships of the novel's main character with the "other", and this will give the novel a special hue, which I intend to define. The search for wholeness is the narrator's starting point and also the ideal expression of all his adventures. Thus, I have focused this study on different forms of the literary language: the importance given to sex, and the kind of understanding the narrator had as a boy compared to what he has now as an adult; the constant presence of Music while he grew to become an adolescent, constituting an aesthetic-ideological clue with ample consequences in the life of the young priest-to-be; the authentic passage rite he goes through when engaging in a tense game involving the religious and mystical values he believed in, and the erotic appeal he discovers in his relationship with the "other", the subtle "carnivalization" that takes place when sacred places and lascivious practices fuse together. I finish this work, briefly setting the novel in the 80's context, when a relationship with the Brazilian social and literary universe - whether it is deliberate or not - shows even more clearly, the author's intention of seducing the reader to believe in what he preaches, and which may be read between the lines. For this purpose, the author emphasizes the creation of an extremely sensitive character, driven by emotion alone.
