Resumo: This article aims to investigate the relationship between André, protagonist and narrator of Ancient Tillage, by Raduan Nassar, with his past, from an analytical perspective of the nostalgic pathos. For this, firstly, issues relatives to memory are approached, given that the narrator reports the constitutive facts of the narrative through memory. The fragmentary and irregular nature of experiential memory is fundamental for the proposed reading of the novel, being intimately related to issues related to nostalgia. In a second moment, we seek to demonstrate how the nostalgic feeling affects the protagonist, marking his relationship with the past and engedering consequences for the narrator and for the narrative.
