Care for newborn babies and their mother by the nurse during the nursing appointment

Resumo: The nursing appointment is an activity that give an opportunity to the nurse to act directly and independently with the client, characterizing her/him as an independent professional. It was the intention of this study to raise the problems of the newborn and their mothers which demanded nursing intervention and the kind of procedure required during the nursing appointment. The study was carried out at Hospital Universitário da USP (University Hospital) when 2222 nursing appointment done by 14 obstetric nurses in the year of 1983 were analysed. The problems were computed and organized by its similarities and identities and separated in: problems related to patological alteration; problems brought about by the women to herself and to the babies. The total number of care procedures undertaken was of 714, 658 for the newborn and 56 for the mothers. The problems that demanded the largest number of care measures were the ones classified as related to pathological alterations, and the kinds of procedure mostly required were care of the umbelical cord and of cesarian incision.

Pretendeu-se neste trabalho levantar quais os problemas dos recém-nascidos e das puérperas que requereram a intervenção da enfermeira no sentido de executar "cuidados" durante o atendimento pela consulta de enfermagem e quais os tipos de cuidados que se fizeram necessários. O estudo foi realizado no Hospital Universitário da USP, no qual foram analisadas 2222 consultas de enfermagem executadas por 14 enfermeiras obstetras no ano de 1983. Os problemas foram computados e agrupados segundo segundo sua semelhança e identidade e divididos em: aqueles tipos de problemas que podem sugerir ou indicar alterações patológicas e aqueles tipos de probemas que surgiram em decorrência da atuação da mulher como mãe ou como puérpera. Quanto aos cuidados executados foram em número de 714 sendo 658 nos recém-nascidos e 56 nas puérperas.
