Resumo: | This is a Portuguese into Spanish translation of the text E se Fosse ao Contrário? Se o gênero nos une, a classe e a raça nos dividem. It was initially published in 2021 as a chapter of the book Pêcheux em (dis)curso: entre o já-dito e o novo, by Pedro & João Publishing. We would like to thank its author and publishers for giving us permission to translate it. The text analyzes the declarations made by a housekeeper during an interview about her five-year-old son’s tragic death, in which her boss, a white woman, took part. Based on Materialist Discourse Analysis and Social Reproduction Theory, the author analyzes the subordinate clauses said by the housekeeper, which highlight her subordinate position. Since the text talks about gender through a Marxist approach, we found it appropriate to use the Feminist Translation Studies as a theoretical translation base, in which nouns and adjectives written in the dominant masculine form in both languages are translated into genderless ones or their feminine equivalents are added. |
