The spatial dimension of labor conflicts in the sugar cane area: rethinking the limits of Labor Judiciary in plantation (Pernambuco/ Northeast/Brazil, 20th century)

Resumo: The main objective of this article is to argue the idea that only by decomposing space – and taking into account its physical, structural and socio-historical dimensions – is possible to understand the limits of Labor Judiciary in the sugar plantation of Northeastern Brazil. Based on an analysis that uses literature and official government reports with labour court documents and public cartographic data, the article debate in a historical perspective about the role of the territorial domain exercised by the employers, in the organization of the sugar society in Pernambuco, during the second half of the 20th century. Therefore, in this text, space plays an extremely relevant role in social analysis.
