Resumo: At the end of the 19th century, leaderships and part of the population of Angoche, Sangage, Sancul and Quitangonha, and the groups macua-imbamela and namarrais organized a series of actions in response to the interference of the Portuguese colonialist policy in Northern Mozambique. This resistance coalition will in this article be the starting point to analyze the experiences and strategies of resistance of these societies against the forms of exploitation of the work at this moment characterized by new relations of power in the African continent. It is also intended to reflect how Islam, as a means of social insertion, has become an element of mobilization for this resistance coalition. Thus, it is intended a more nuanced approach to resistance, highlighting the dynamics of relations between the different historical agents present in Northern Mozambique between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
