Resumo: Game studies have long debated how to relate fictional and game elements within video games. This article proposes that many of the conceptual puzzles in this debate can be resolved if games and fiction are not treated as separate, but as specific formalisations of the same underlying phenomenon, play. The article presents five theoretical proponents of this games-and-fiction-as-play (GAFAP) approach, according to which games and fiction bear more similarities than differences. It draws out the shared tenets and advantages of such a GAFAP approach, and how it helps explain both the commonalities and differences of fiction and games.

Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul2019-07-24info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://seer.ufrgs.br/index.php/intexto/article/view/9275710.19132/1807-8583201946.166-195Intexto; n. 46, Special Edition Games and Philosophy; 166-195Intexto; n. 46, Edição Especial Games e Filosofia; 166-195Intexto; n. 46, Edição Especial Games e Filosofia; 166-195Intexto; n. 46, Edição Especial Games e Filosofia; 166-195Intexto; n. 46, Edição Especial Games e Filosofia; 166-1951807-8583reponame:Intexto (Porto Alegre)instname:Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)instacron:UFRGSporhttps://seer.ufrgs.br/index.php/intexto/article/view/92757/53087Copyright (c) 2019 Sebastian Deterdinghttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessDeterding, Sebastian2023-03-02T15:43:48Zoai:seer.ufrgs.br:article/92757Revistahttp://seer.ufrgs.br/intextoONGhttp://seer.ufrgs.br/intexto/oai||intexto@ufrgs.br1807-85831807-8583opendoar:2023-03-02T15:43:48Intexto (Porto Alegre) - Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)false
