Resumo: | In this essay I plan to discuss some aspects of the journalist’s social responsibility based on some of Paulo Freire’s ideas. This concern comes from my understanding that jour-nalism is not only a set of techniques, neither do I accept that a journalist plays the role of a simple news producer. To fulfill my intent, my starting point will be one of his most classical works, entitled “The commitment of the professional with society” and, through his thinking, I will reflect about certain dilemmas of a professional – and of the profession itself –, in addition to having dialogues with other contemporary thinkers who could contribute to the understanding of the subject. |

Esta preocupación tiene origen en mi entendimiento de que el periodismo no es un simple conjunto de técnicas, ni tampoco yo acepto el papel del periodista como un mero productor de noticias. En ese sentido, voy a tomar como punto de partida su texto clásico, “El compromiso del profesional con la sociedad” y, a través de su pensamiento, presentar la reflexión sobre algunos dilemas del profesional - y de la profesión -, así como establecer el diálogo con otros pensadores contemporáneos que puedan contribuir para la comprensión de la materia.Neste trabalho, de caráter ensaístico, pretendo discutir alguns aspectos sobre a respon-sabilidade social do jornalista a partir de algumas ideias de Paulo Freire. Tal preocupação vem de meu entendimento de que o jornalismo não é um simples conjunto de técnicas, nem tampouco aceito ao jornalista o papel de mero produtor de notícias. Para tanto, tomarei como ponto de partida um de seus textos clássicos, intitulado O compromisso do profissional com a sociedade e, através do seu pensamento, refletir sobre determina-dos dilemas do profissional – e da profissão –, além de dialogar com outros pensadores contemporâneos que possam contribuir para a compreensão do tema.
