This document presents the activities developed during the obligatory supervised internship (OSI), as part of the curricular component for bachelor's degree in animal science from the Federal University of Sergipe. The internship was carried at the Dois Irmãos State Park in Recife-PE, from January 20th to May 7th, 2021, totaling 630 hours of activity. Activities were carried out in the nutrition sectors, vivarium and wildlife management of the Zoo, which accommodate about 600 animals, among 120 species. At the same time, an experiment was carried out to evaluate the effect of environmental enrichment practices in demographic indicators in laboratory mice (Mus musculus). For this purpose, the mice were subjected to different enrichment frequencies, weekly and daily, for a period of four months, evaluating the influence on demographic indicators, weaning, pre-weaning deaths and birth rates. The results showed that the animals had no significant influence on the number of pre-weaning births and deaths, when daily enrichment was provided, but there was significance in the weaning rate between the control and weekly groups. These results suggest that environmental enrichment can be a practice that can bring positive responses in raising mice, however, more robust studies on the proposed indices are needed, in addition to the evaluation of other factors, such as weight gain.
