This monograph presents the results obtained in our research, which aimed to reflect on the importance, demands and challenges imposed on social workers who work in the scope of institutional care for children and adolescents in the Metropolitan Region of Aracaju. This undergraduate thesis presents a bibliographical research of critical dialectical method that seeks to carry out a historical rescue about the evolution of the rights of children and adolescents in the world and especially in Brazil, which is configured as a right conquered through the struggle of the working class. It also sought to reflect on institutional care as a guarantee of protection for children and adolescents who had their rights violated, carrying out a survey of important events that marked the evolution of institutional care policies. Finally, we seek to carry out a critical analysis of the work of social workers who are part of the technical teams of the reception units of the RMA composed of the municipalities of Aracaju/SE, Nossa Senhora do Socorro/SE, Barra dos Coqueiros/SE and São Cristóvão/SE, so that we can understand a little of the daily reality of the professional doing of Social Work.
