The conservation of genetic resources guarantees the diversity of countless plant species and farmers help in the rescue, maintenance and conservation of these genetic resources, as they produce over the years on their properties. Of the various species used by man, corn (Zea mays L.) deserves to be highlighted for its great economic importance, serving as a basis for human and animal nutrition. In this sense, the present work aimed to identify and characterize the varieties of Creole corn (Zea mays L.) cultivated by farmers in the Alto Sertão Sergipano region. To obtain the information, a semi-structured questionnaire was used, applied virtually, addressing social, productive, storage and characterization aspects of the guardians' maize varieties. According to the results obtained, the role of female farmers in the storage of grains, production and management, in addition to a large genetic collection, consisting of starter bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L), broad bean (Vicia faba) varieties, was evidenced. L.) and string bean (Vigna unguiculata), but also for twenty maize varieties, which were obtained through spaces for exchange of seeds, donations and own, they are stored, in the Family Seed Banks, in plastic drums or zinc and PET bottles. According to the knowledge of the guardians, the maize varieties were characterized, pointing out different attributes such as plant size, number of ears, cycle, grain color, resistance and indication for use. Considering these characteristics, it was verified that the varieties Hibra, Cubano, Caatingueiro Asa Branca and Santa Catarina stand out in terms of desirable attributes for grain and silage.
