Resumo: Recently, films and other artistic expressions have become objects of analysis for new researchers in International Relations (IR). However, this type of interdisciplinary exercise is met with resistance by a significant portion of the academy. Such critics declare the incompatibility between International Relations and Cinema based on two main assumptions: the epistemological scope of IR is not flexible enough to interact with artistic objects; and Cinema as an art does not imply a commitment to the truth or production of knowledge and, thus, has little to contribute to the scientific character of IR. Therefore, the objective of the present work is to evaluate these criticisms and establish an epistemological analysis on the theoretical possibilities for films to be used as relevant sources for the researcher in International Relations. For this, the case of Palestinian Cinema is used as a central reference to expose the complexities of this debate in perspective to concepts such as collective memory and national identity

Tais críticos declaram a incompatibilidade entre as Relações Internacionais e o Cinema a partir de duas suposições principais: o escopo epistemológico das RI não é flexível o bastante para interagir com objetos artísticos; e o Cinema enquanto arte não implica um compromisso com a verdade ou produção de conhecimento e, portanto, tem pouco a contribuir para o caráter científico das RI. Diante disso, o objetivo do presente trabalho é avaliar essas críticas e estabelecer uma análise de caráter epistemológico sobre as possibilidades teóricas para que filmes sejam utilizados como fontes relevantes para o pesquisador das Relações Internacionais.
