Resumo: | Financial education is the phenomenon responsible for guiding the behaviors that will be adopted by individuals during the management of their financial resources, so that the more information they have, the greater the chances of using their resources consciously and appropriately. Those with little financial education are more likely to consume irrationally and acquire debt. Financial institutions, such as banks and credit unions, play a significant role in the economy as they play the role of stewards of the financial resources of their customers or members, respectively. The present study seeks to measure and verify the relationship between financial education and sociodemographic factors, as well as to measure the knowledge about banks and credit unions of residents of the city of Itabaiana/SE. The research was carried out based on a descriptive quantitative analysis, using a structured questionnaire with closed questions, addressing financial education, knowledge about banks and credit unions, in addition to sociodemographic factors, and was applied online via Google Forms®. From the analysis, the results showed that respondents have a middle level of financial education, but have gaps in knowledge about banks and credit unions. |

Já aqueles com pouca educação financeira estão mais propensos a consumirem de maneira irracional e adquirirem dívidas. As instituições financeiras, como os bancos e as cooperativas de crédito, têm um papel importante na economia à medida que desempenham a função de administradores dos recursos financeiros de seus clientes ou associados, respectivamente. O presente estudo busca mensurar e verificar a relação entre a educação financeira e os fatores sociodemográficos, bem como medir o conhecimento sobre bancos e cooperativas de crédito dos moradores da cidade de Itabaiana/SE. A pesquisa foi realizada a partir de uma análise quantitativa e descritiva, utilizando um questionário estruturado com perguntas fechadas, abordando a educação financeira, conhecimento sobre bancos e cooperativas de crédito, além de fatores sociodemográficos, e foi aplicado on line via Google Forms®.
