Resumo: This research has as its aim understand the relationships between gender and power, from the study of the domesticd space as a component of the the urban achaeological landscape from the site Palha, house belonging to the famlily of Mrs. Josefa de Jesus, former resident of the Palha site. The results allowed us to observe that the kitchen was a priveleged locus of the woman's power, because the kitchen and the associated material culture is a fundamental scenario for the stage of the gender discussions and power that serve to transmit and reafirm knowledges, creeds and memories, notedly for the afro-brazilian.
