Resumo: This paper aims to highlight how the Shipwreck Cemetery became State Heritage of Sergipe. From a synthesis of the First World War and a somewhat broader approach of World War II, we discuss the conducted by the German submarine U-507 in August 1942 as the main motivator for Brazil's entry into World War II, as the effects caused hundreds of deaths in the Brazilian coast. The search will start from the analysis of the two major wars occurred in the twentieth century, culminating in the analysis of the Cemetery of Castaway as an important asset for the history and the local and national memory also.

A partir de uma síntese da Primeira Guerra mundial e uma abordagem um pouco mais ampla da Segunda Guerra Mundial, discutiremos os torpedeamentos realizados pelo submarino alemão U-507 em agosto de 1942 como principal motivador para a entrada do Brasil na Segunda Guerra Mundial, visto que os seus efeitos ocasionaram centenas de mortes no litoral brasileiro.
