Análise histopatológica de componentes fibrosos da matriz extracelular de biópsia do ovário de indivíduos com esquistossomose no estado de Sergipe

Female genital schistosomiasis is often overlooked and poses a health risk to women living in endemic areas. Therefore, the objective of this research is to perform a clinical and histopathological analysis of cases of female genital schistosomiasis in Sergipe. This is a descriptive and retrospective study of quantitative approach based on secondary databases belonging to Memorial Prof. Dr. Nestor Piva of Universidade Tiradentes. From this memorial, medical records and biopsies were obtained from patients with genital schistosomiasis from 1984 to 1994. For pathological analysis, hematoxylin-eosin, Masson's trichrome and picrosirius-hematoxylin stains were used. A distribution of the number of cases per year was performed to obtain a mean and a percentage distribution among the most affected organs. In addition, the chi-square test was used to establish a correlation between schistosomiasis and its anatomical and surgical location with other pathologies. An average of four cases per year was obtained and the infection was found in all organs of the genital tract, with its highest concentration in the ovaries. Histopathological analysis showed several granulomas containing Schistosoma mansoni eggs in the productive and curing phases. It was concluded that the ovaries were the most affected anatomical sites, and the presence of genital schistosomiasis may favor the occurrence of associated pathologies and, therefore, causes a high morbidity index to women's health
