Psychiatric care consisted for many years of treatment based on asylum care, this context changed with the Psychiatric Reform. From this, the logic of treatment started to be based on extra-hospital services, and the user started to be served within his social context, in the community. In this new process, the family becomes the main caregiver and lives with this person, who was previously separated in asylums. However, this care can result in an overload in the family environment, thus requiring monitoring and intervention with these caregivers. In view of this, the present work has the general objective of investigating the burden of caregivers of users with psychological distress and as consequences for their daily lives. The specific objectives are: understanding the meaning of care for the caregiver of the subject with psychological distress; investigate the impact that the burden felt by caregivers can have on their mental health; description as the main difficulties faced by the caregivers of the person in psychological distress and highlight the benefits of the partnership, support and guidance between the professionals of the care team and the caregiver. The methodology used was a qualitative descriptive study, analyzing a semi-structured questionnaire with open and closed questions, carried out with twenty-one caregivers, through a digital platform. As a result, the research points to the importance of promoting public policies of care intervention when caring,at different levels, providing it with the improvement of well-being, conflict prevention and stress and security in the provision of care.
