The maroon community Mussuca presents its history from narratives that are transmitted from generation to generation, marking maroon emergence, during the escapes realized by the blacks in the period of transition from Brazil Colony to Brazil Empire. In this way, we believe it is necessary to contextualize the history of Sergipe, focusing on the Cotinguiba Valley and Laranjeiras, a city where the Mussuca maroon located, to demonstrate the process of colonization, slavery and resistance of Africans and Africans, an essential part of the cultural mold Brazilian. After this brief contextualization, we will discuss Mussuca and "its plants", as well as the physical structure of the cultivation sites, in order to observe the forms of cultivation and use of these plants, which refer to the knowledge transmitted and accumulated for generations, enabling the construction of a landscape of the memory of the population of Mussuca.
