A RECEPÇÃO DA PRIMEIRA EDIÇÃO DE ARIEL EM ARTIGOS ACADÊMICOS: THE RECEPTION OF ARIEL’S FIRST EDITION IN ACADEMIC ARTICLES

RESUMO: Publicado postumamente em 1965, o último livro de poemas de Sylvia Plath, Ariel, figura até hoje como uma das obras mais viscerais da poesia moderna confessional. Considerando a relevância da obra e visando compreender melhor a sua recepção, investigamos três artigos acadêmicos sobre o volume, publicados em língua inglesa nos anos de 1966, 1972 e 1976. Nesse sentido, para embasar a nossa discussão, utilizamos as fundamentações da Estética da Recepção, teoria formulada por H. R. Jauss em sua História da literatura como provocação à teoria literária (1967). As articulações teóricas da Estética da Recepção modificaram bastante as discussões das teorias vigentes da década de 1960, pois sugerem a prática da análise do posicionamento dos leitores em relação ao texto. Sendo assim, nosso objetivo é pontuar eventuais convergências no que tange o viés interpretativo dos pesquisadores em relação aos poemas, uma vez que Ariel ficou conhecido principalmente pela abordagem da temática da morte. Poesia confessional.        ABSTRACT: Ariel, posthumously published in 1965, is the last book of poems Sylvia Plath wrote and is still acclaimed as one of the most visceral works of confessional modern poetry. Considering its relevance and intending to better comprehend the reception of the book, we investigated three academic articles published in English in the years of 1966, 1972 and 1976. Our analysis is supported by the theoretical concepts of Reception Aesthetics, formulated by H. R. Jauss in Literary history as a challenge to literary theory (1967). The theory presented a contrasting proposition to critical and theoretical practices that dominated literary interpretations during the 1960’s, once it suggests an analytical approach of the interpretation of the readers. The objective of this paper, then, is to point out possible similarities between the interpretations of the scholars towards the poems of Ariel, considering that the volume is widely known for its relation with death.
