RESUMO: Este artigo busca indicar o autêntico realismo presente em Grande Sertão: Veredas a partir de princípios estéticos elaborados por György Lukács, com ênfase na lógica dialética e na dimensão humanista presentes no único romance de João Guimarães Rosa. A hipótese básica é que o Grande Sertão: Veredas é um retrato de aspectos essenciais da realidade brasileira, sem deixar de captar a singularidade de personagens sertanejos ou de incorporar os movimentos decisivos da modernidade universal, o que o afasta de qualquer quadro metafísico, sempre muito enfatizado pela crítica. Modernidade.     ABSTRACT: This article seeks to indicate the authentic realism present in Grande Sertão: Veredas [The Devil to Pay in the Backlands]. It is based on aesthetic principles elaborated by György Lukács, with emphasis on the dialectical logic and the humanistic dimension present in João Guimarães Rosa's single novel. The basic hypothesis is that the Grande Sertão: Veredas is a portrait of crucial aspects of Brazilian reality, capturing, at the same time, the singularity of local characters and the decisive movements of universal modernity. All of that is able to distance the novel from any metaphysical framework, always too much emphasized by the critics. KEYWORDS: Grande Sertão. Brazil. Realism. Lukács. Dialectics. Modernity.
