Resumo: This paper has as objective analyses the chapter “Solfieri”, in the Noite na taverna, by Álvares de Azevedo. One is known that the posthumous work of Azevedo comprises great critical fortune, without intending, so, to do her critical lifting, but a cutting out – of the foregoing chapter – and from this, a reading on the spaces of the city, of the death and of the life along which the narrator-protagonist goes. Authors like Brandão (2013), Lins (1976), Gomes (2008) and Blanchot (2011) contributes to the understanding of the proposed study.

Sabe-se que a obra póstuma de Azevedo abarca grande fortuna crítica, não se pretendendo, portanto, fazer levantamento crítico dela, mas um recorte – do capítulo supracitado – e a partir disto, uma leitura sobre os espaços da cidade, da morte e da vida pelos quais o narrador-protagonista transita.
