DA LINGUAGEM FILOSÓFICA À FICCIONAL: ECOS DE MODERN FICTION EM MRS. DALLOWAY: FROM THE PHILOSOPHICAL LANGUAGEM TO THE FICTIONAL: ECHOS OF MODERN FICTION IN MRS. DALLOWAY

RESUMO: Estudo de Modern Fiction (1924, 1a publicação) e leitura de Mrs. Dalloway (1925, 1a publicação) com base naquele, ambos de Virginia Woolf. Discute-se a representação literária da tradição inglesa, que será exemplificada através de Robinson Crusoé e a forma literária utilizada por este: a autobiografia, influência da discussão epistemológica cartesiana. Para tanto, a Posição do narrador no romance contemporâneo, de Adorno (2003), será considerado. A partir de um excerto de Mrs. Dalloway, investigar-se-á como o romance de Woolf dá forma à discussão teórica proposta pela autora em Modern Fiction, a fim de expressar aquilo que a autora, no referido ensaio, denomina de “the essential thing” (WOOLF, 2000, p. 741), ausente na tradição inglesa, seja clássica seja contemporânea, e, simultaneamente, responde à crise da representação literária, discutida por Adorno, no referido ensaio. Modernidade.        ABSTRACT: This paper focus on Virginia Woolf’s Modern Fiction (1924, 1st publication) and Mrs. Dalloway (1925, 1st publication). It is pointed out the English literary tradition, which is based on Daniel Defoe’s first novel – Robinson Crusoé –, and the point of view of that author’s, whose narrator could take into account some preconception that is no longer possible in the beginning of the new century: the 20th. To do so, it is also considered Theodor Adorno’s Posição do narrador no romance contemporâneo (2003). Considering the extense of that novel, we are going to focus on the first pages of it, in order to try understanding and explaining the so-called “the essential thing”, (WOOLF, 2000, p. 741), because, according to Woolf, that thing was missing from the English Literature – the thing that would show the crisis of literary representation in the new century.
