RESUMO: Silva Alvarenga é um dos poetas árcades mineiros menos estudados. Das obras do autor, Glaura: poemas eróticos (1799) tem recebido maior atenção pelas suas inovações na poesia lírica. No entanto, outra obra de grande importância do autor é O desertor (1774), que foi publicado no período em que Alvarenga estudava em Coimbra. O desertor constitui um poema herói-cômico, gênero pouco abordado pela crítica. O desertor é visto como uma forma de louvor às Reformas na Universidade de Coimbra, implantadas pelo Marquês de Pombal. Sendo uma obra bem desconhecida fora dos núcleos mais fechados da academia, faz-se necessária uma avaliação dela, ainda que breve. O objetivo deste trabalho é, portanto, fazer uma introdução a essa obra, focando elementos básicos que atenderiam aos iniciantes em seu estudo. PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Literatura brasileira. Silva Alvarenga. Poema herói-cômico.     ABSTRACT: Silva Alvarenga is one of the less studied Arcardian poets in Minas Gerais. From the author's works, Glaura: Poemas Eróticos (1799) has received greater attention for his innovations in lyric poetry. Nevertheless, another work of great importance of the author is O Desertor (1774), which was published in the period in which Alvarenga studied in Coimbra. The deserter is a heroic-comic poem, a genre that is hardly touched by criticism. O Desertor is seen as a form of praise for the Reforms in the University of Coimbra, implanted by the Marquis of Pombal. Being an unknown work outside the closed nuclei of the academy, it is necessary an evaluation of her, although brief. The objective of this article is therefore to make an introduction to O Desertor, focusing on basic elements that would assist the beginners in their study. KEYWORDS: Brazilian literature.
