The lianas leaf litterfall production was estimated in an Atlantic slope forest remnant (submountain dense ombrofilous forest) in the Rio Novo microbasin, Orleans, Santa Catarina (28º21'S e 49º17'W, altitude 285m). Based on the 1993 litterfall collection, which estimated production in 1 hectare of the remnant, the leaf fractions belonging to the 16 lianas species present in the studied area were separated from the litterfall. These 16 species were confirmed by comparison with Herbário Padre Dr. Raulino Reitz samples, obtained for the lianas total litterfall production and for the species. The annual lianas litterall production of the forest remnant was 1,471 kg/hectare, which represents 17% of the litterfall produced and 25% of the leaf fraction. The species which has the greatest leaf litterfall production was Bauhinia angulosa Vog. (Caesalpiniaceae) with 1,432 kg/hectare/year, representing 97% of the lianas leaf litterfall production of the remnant. Among the 16 species found in the phytossociological survey of the remnant forest, eight were not detected in the litterfall collectors, either due to their being out the collectors' reach or due to the low density, because some of them presented unique samples in the studied area.
