Morality and meaning of work for sex workers

Resumo: | This study aimed to analyze the sense of work for sex workers faced with the social immorality of their work. To do so, they explore how these professionals establish good combinations between economic transactions and intimacy in their working relationships in order to give meaning of their work. From a qualitative study, eight professionals were interviewed and the information collected was submitted to content analysis. The study showed that the meaning of work is linked to the successful adjustment between monetary transactions and intimacy ties. It is this adjustment that allows to create support to give meaning of work, even in a context of moral challenge. It was also observed that frequently the borders between intimacy and economy are transgressed, demanding from these workers a permanent effort to adjust the economic relations in the work. |

Para ello, se explotan cómo estos profesionales establecen buenas combinaciones entre las transacciones económicas e intimidad en sus relaciones de trabajo a fin de dar sentido a su trabajo. A partir de un estudio cualitativo, fueron entrevistadas ocho profesionales y la información recogida fue analizada con base en el análisis de contenido. El estudio mostró que el sentido del trabajo está vinculado al ajuste exitoso entre transacciones monetarias y lazos de intimidad. Es este ajuste que permite crear soporte para dar sentido del trabajo, incluso en un contexto de contestación moral. Se constató, también, que frecuentemente las fronteras entre intimidad y economía se transgreden, exigiendo de estas trabajadoras un esfuerzo permanente para ajustar las relaciones económicas en el ejercicio del trabajo.Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar o sentido do trabalho para profissionais do sexo ante a imoralidade social do seu trabalho. Para isso, exploram-se como estes profissionais estabelecem boas combinações entre as transações econômicas e intimidade nas suas relações de trabalho a fim de dar sentido ao seu trabalho. A partir de um estudo qualitativo, foram entrevistadas oito profissionais e as informações coletadas foram analisadas com base na análise de conteúdo. O estudo mostrou que o sentido do trabalho está vinculado ao ajuste bem-sucedido entre transações monetárias e laços de intimidade. É este ajuste que permite criar suporte para dar sentido do trabalho, mesmo em um contexto de contestação moral.
