Resumo: In general, the teaching strategy based on science fairs is seen as an event focused only on the presentation of the outcomes of studies related to science subjects, often conducted by students in spaces other than the classrooms. However, recent perspectives suggest that such a strategy should be understood as the development of processes integrated into the regular school curriculum in order to promote access to information and construction of knowledge in different spaces, resulting in situations of scientific communication for the school and the external community. From this perspective, and assuming the current context of dissemination of post-truth statements, we seek to understand the role of a science fair with the theme women in science, occurred in a state school located in a big city in Southeast Brazil, on the relativization of “truths” related to this topic. In addition, we seek to analyse the contributions to some of the students who participated in the process and were interviewed on the day of the dissemination of the results to the external community in terms of the formation of their public opinions about science. The results indicate that science fairs can contribute to students’ learning and awareness about post-truth statements often disseminated in our current society.

However, recent perspectives suggest that such a strategy should be understood as the development of processes integrated into the regular school curriculum in order to promote access to information and construction of knowledge in different spaces, resulting in situations of scientific communication for the school and the external community. The results indicate that science fairs can contribute to students’ learning and awareness about post-truth statements often disseminated in our current society.
